A dramatic portrait of a bearded elder with flowing white hair looks sideways with a thoughtful, deeply serious expression. His long beard turns into dripping black lines that run over newspaper print, creating a strong sense of time, ink and memory. On the right, a standing figure seen from behind faces a red wall marked with fragments of text. Bold reds, blues and blacks add intensity, while the finely drawn hair and beard show great skill. The painting is about thought, words and the cost of wisdom. A commanding large canvas full of character and presence.
